Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD)
Unlike SMS, USSD transactions occur during the session only. This benefits the service provider in that the customer maintains a connection to the gaming service and therefore incurs costs associated with the mobile signal use.
The benefit to the customer is that there is an additional layer of security in having an uninterrupted connection to the gaming service.
Short Message Service (SMS)
The benefit of this style of gaming is that with SMS if the phone is not activated or within range, messages can be sent to a mobile phone and stored for several days for later transmission.
With this type of communication the customer is not required to stay connected to the gaming service.
Apps Apple iOS, Google Android, RIM Blackberry OS
A Rich User Interface allows for desktop-type level software to be accessible on mobile devices either through browser plug-ins or standalone downloadable applications for smart phone type devices.
This allows for the content that is significantly more sophisticated in its design and interactivity, and is made available to the vast majority of cell phone users that require more advanced gaming options.
